What Gate Are You Headed To?

You know those people movers at the airport that carry you toward your gate while you stand still (or make you go super fast when you walk on them)?

I'm wondering if you're on one of those, or if you're only getting to where it's easy to get and then getting cozy.

Let's say life is like being at the airport. Every morning you wake up and walk inside. You start at Gate 1 every morning. Same things, same people, same destination, every day. It's incredibly familiar. You know how to do it.

But do you know if your destiny (what you came here to be, do, have, experience) is at a different gate? What if you're meant to be taking off on a flight that leaves from a different gate, and you hang out every day at Gate 1?

You can make Gate 1 very cozy. You can pretty it up, bring different things tomorrow, change up where you sit. Things that make it seem like there's been some change.

Except your butt's meant to be hanging out at Gate 77, and you're all the way down here at Gate 1 convincing yourself it's good enough.

Maybe you feel like seeing what's going on at Gate 5. It's not that far away. You could always return to Gate 1 if you didn't like the vibe or where that flight was headed.

So you stretch a little. You interrupt the day-to-day familiarity and loop. You take a few intentional steps and pass by Gates 2, 3, and 4 on the way. You discover things you like and don't like. You deal with whatever's happening as you make your way further into the airport. And maybe you find that it's actually kind of cool at Gate 5 and you get excited about going there again tomorrow.

It feels good. You feel evolved, because you did it. You're hanging out with new people, some of the ones you used to watch walk right past Gate 1 every morning while you wondered where they were headed. And some of the people you used to know have made their way to Gate 5 too (*Ohmygosh! Look where we are! Look where we're going!*)

But have you just become comfortable again? What if Gate 5 isn't the final destination either? It's just better than where you started, so you convince yourself it is.

What gate are you actually meant to be headed towards?

Most people change a little bit and pat themselves on the back. They might watch the women standing on the people mover with their boujee carry-on and cute traveling outfits and think, "I want that too. All I have to do is buy the bag and stand on the people mover from gates 1 to 5." Except buying the clothes and doing more of the same things you already do is just managing yourself at the same gate.

When you feel a pull toward something bigger or different than living the same life every day, what you're feeling is a nudge from your soul. It's saying: Don't settle. We're here for a bigger reason. Our destiny requires that we get our butt to Gate 77.

When you know you're meant to make your way to Gate 77, you walk into that airport and get on the people mover. Yes, you'll have to walk sometimes, and there will be stretches of remodeling where you'll deal with inconveniences. You'll still be fully present with all of your people (partner, kids, friends, clients) but you won't be energetically derailed by them to the point where you hop over the railing and camp out at Gate 12.

When you know where you're headed, even if you don't know exactly what the plane at Gate 77 looks like or where it's going, you live differently. You set an energetic intention and align yourself with that reality now.

Even when there's something that needs dealing with, construction, delays, slow people in front of you, you're still moving in the right direction with your energy. It changes what you allow yourself to be distracted by. And all of those routines you had on lock down at Gates 1 and 5 now support you in getting to Gate 77 because you're tethered into where you're headed, not just where you are.

You know your ticket says Gate 77. You might forget sometimes, so you keep glancing down at that ticket to remind yourself, and excitement runs through your body again, because you know that's where you're meant to be.

So here's what I'm wondering: what gate are you holding a ticket for right now?

And is that gate satisfying your soul, or has your human decided it's all she gets, deserves, or is worthy of?

I went from people mover to monorail. I don't even enter through the airport door anymore. I step into the fastest mode to get to Gate 77. I no longer have the desire to be distracted from where I'm headed or what I'm here to do. I know there are people in my life who would love for me to continue hanging out at the gate where I met them. But there are people who need me to navigate all the way to Gate 77 so I can show them how to, too.

I'm in my monorail era. And from the outside, it probably looks boring and lonely and very sacrificial of a lot of fun things. But I know it's the way. And Gate 77 is getting closer.

You might know exactly where you're meant to be headed. But if you don't, it might be time to find out.
